How To Decrease Tenacious As well as Unpleasant Stomach Fat

By Alex Blaken

Excess stomach fat is not only unsightly, it can also be a sign of serious health issues. The visible fat on the abdomen is in fact not the main problem, it's the hidden abdominal fat, or visceral fat, as it's known. Type-2 diabetes and heart disease are two of today's health epidemics that are strongly related to visceral fat.

By working to reduce abdominal fat you can also reduce visceral fat and thus reduce your risk of serious health problems. Although abdominal fat cannot be targeted directly, there are actually some pretty simple ways to reduce overall body fat.

Eliminate refined sugar: When sugar (a refined carbohydrate) is eaten it quickly enters the bloodstream elevating blood glucose levels. The body reacts by producing insulin to bring those levels back to normal. The problem is, when too much sugar is eaten it creates an excess of glucose. This excess ends up being stored by the body as fat. Further more, there is research indicating that visceral fat build up is made worse by the consumption of refined carbohydrates.

Sugar should strictly limited and eliminated if at all possible. This can be a challenge since it is so all-pervasive. A particular problem is high fructose corn syrup or HFCS. There is growing concern about this cheap, industrially produced sweetener which is basically a very concentrated form of sugar.

One additional sugar danger is high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). This concentrated form of sugar is even more damaging to health than ordinary table sugar, and again, should be completely avoided. The simplest way to do this is to avoid any kind of processed foods (see below).

Eliminate trans fats: Trans fats are a nutritional disaster. These industrially produced fats are found in most processed foods, and anyone consuming products like donuts, cookies, cakes, and french fries can be pretty sure they're taking them in.

Manufacturers and retailers like trans fats because they're cheap and they make foods last longer. They have no benefit to consumers however, because they have no nutritional value and are actually harmful. They cannot be properly utilized by the human body and can actually worsen visceral fat build up. Natural fats like olive oil, coconut oil and butter are far better options.

Eliminate processed foods: Processed foods are a potential source of trans fats, what's more, they often contain a lot of added salt and sugar. Because most of the flavor of food is lost during processing, manufacturers dump in extra salt and sugar to make up for it. As stated above, the best policy is to stick to home-prepared food. This way, it can be guaranteed to be fresh and junk-free.

A common complaint from people is a lack of time or energy to cook at home. This simply reflects a lack of knowledge and know-how. The fact is, it's incredibly simple to rustle up tasty and nutritious food. Some quick Googling will bring up many recipes that are fast and easy to prepare. Healthy meals are not only easy to make, they're also a vital step in combating the dreaded stomach fat.
